Thanksgiving has come and gone. We haven't even gotten over all of the preparation, overeating, and travel, and now it's time to start preparing for Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah. Has your child been behaving differently since Thanksgiving? Are you seeing some old behaviors resurface? It's very likely that they are reacting to the over-stimulation of Thanksgiving. You can help them to readjust and feel secure again by laying low and hanging out at home for awhile. Take the time to re-visit some attachment activities and see how they respond. This may just create the "Holiday Harmony" that you're hoping for.

Can you provide some examples of "Attachment Activities"? This time of year is always tough trying to decompress the kids! Thanks for the post.
ReplyDelete@ Scott ... I really appreciate the comment.
ReplyDelete"Attachment Activities" focus on appropriate physical contact with a great deal of eye contact.
If your child(ren)are younger, Peek a Boo and Hide and Seek are ideal. You can also try combing or brushing their hair while facing each other, having them sit on your lap while reading an interactive book, the use of lotion to massage, and just laying on the floor and allowing them to climb on you. These are some fun activities that also encourage attachment.
Have Fun,
Deb
